How To Set Default Selling UM
The unit of measure for an inventory item can be defined upon creating the item through the New Item Wizard. If no unit of measure is assigned, the system will automatically assign the base unit of measure for the item which is EACH.
In Connected Business 14, you now have the ability to change or define the selling unit of measure for inventory items regardless of what is set up in the New Item Wizard.
This feature is only available in Connected Business v14 and higher.
To do this,
- Go to Inventory module > Item > Find Item. The list of sellable inventory items will be displayed.
- Select item from the list to load the Item Detail form.
- Go to the Setup tab > Unit Measure. By default, the defined unit of measure for the item, as set up in the New Item Wizard, will be displayed. If you want to have an additional unit of measure for the item, click the dropdown arrow and select the unit of measure from the dropdown list e.g. DOZEN.

- To set the default unit of measure for the item, tick the checkbox of the unit measure you want to set as default under the Def. Selling column.

- Click Save and Close.
Upon adding the item in the sales order or sales invoice, the default unit of measure for the item is indicated in the UM column.

You can change the unit of measure by clicking the dropdown arrow. Select the preferred unit of measure from the list then click OK.

Changing the UM in the sales order or invoice only applies to the current transaction and does not change the default UM defined in the item.
If the item added is a matrix group, the default UM is indicated in the Item Matrix Entry form. You can change the UM for the matrix item by selecting the UM from the dropdown list.
